Road Route Selection Using (GIS) and Remote sensing techniques

Sudan is one of the biggest countries in Africa and still under devolvement. Roads are one of the most important factors in development. Road route selection is an important stage in road construction. Many factors govern road route selection including; type of subgrade, topography, availability and cost of materials, environmental impacts, social and economical services …etc. Using (GIS) and remote sensing techniques in road route selection will reduce cost and time.
The aim of this paper is to select the best road route between Karima and Dongola towns in north Sudan. This road will serve Marawi Dam area. Approximate road lengt! h is 180 Km. running North West. The route selection will be carried out using landsat-7 (ETM) satellite images after performing all necessary enhancement techniques. The necessary condition, governing the route selection will be verified to optimize the route selection.
