Abstract
Mobile LiDAR – Scanning Our Earth from the Air, Land and on Water

LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology has become an important tool used by surveying, mapping and engineering companies and organizations. Tripod mounted static 2-D scanners are being used to get accurate and incredibly detailed as-builts of bridges and other infrastructure. Airborne LiDAR systems are at work in many countries around the world. The most recent innovation is mobile ground LiDAR, which can scan a road corridor as fast as the traffic is moving. This paper will summarize how LiDAR works, and then describe its integration at Terrapoint into a mobile platform called TITAN. Examples of LiDAR data acquired of road corridors from TITAN, and from a boat by TITAN will be reviewed.
