Abstract
Over the past several years, IWK had begun the basic development of GIS taking on a 2-tier approach. The 1st tier was to link all asset location and pertinent information on the assets on a base map. On a more detailed 2nd tier level GIS, a number of large catchments have information on sewer network and pipeline components. The customer premises for these areas have also been identified. Over the last few years, the sewer network information is being verified and updated. Some of the key objectives of IGIS are to integrate and standardise GIS based systems and data currently in use, to link asset, customer and operations information to GIS, to make available GIS based asset information to relevant departments using a web-based GIS system. The Phase 1A of the IGIS system has gone live in February 2009, and Phase 1B, involving integration with other IWK systems is expected to be completed by June 2009.Future enhancements anticipated include System to be expanded gradually for Tier 2 GIS (individual properties, sewer network components), Development data on new assets incorporated and Links for live operational information.
