Abstract
National military and intelligence communities are increasingly challenged by the proliferation of structured
databases of individuals, organizations, targets, sensor records and electronic transactions of any
kind; unstructured information (intelligence, diplomatic, and military cables; World Wide Web Content; email;
and other documents), and spatial data sources (maps, features, and coverages). Historically, data
processing has been largely constrained between these three classes of data & information. The ability to
easily cross-exploit structured, unstructured, and spatial data in near real time, and in a way that
performs at enterprise-scales, has largely been absent. This is a problem if National military and intelligence
communities are going to be able to anticipate and react in near real time to emerging threats. A
geospatial system meets the full spectrum of an organization’s requirements, transform geospatial data
into information useful for decision making processes. The specific components and capabilities builtinto
geospatial business systems include authoring – Transforming source data into products, including
orthos, terrain, features, 3D data etc.
