Some Research Problems in Geovisualization

Abstract
In Geovisualization, domain-specific knowledge is deeply intertwined with geospatial techniques. While
commercial solutions exists for many specific scenarios, there is an ever growing need for foundational
research in Geovisualization. In this survey paper, we present progress on a range of open research
problems in Geovisualization. Our selection of research topics is drawn from recent work by a broad range
of researchers from the worldwide research community. Topics range from information retrieval challenges
of complex, semistructured geospatial data, to studies into the importance of incorporating
models of human perception into geovisualization tasks
