Abstract

Human kind now faces severe challenges in terms of the security of our economies and the security of the environment. It is my belief that information technology has a vital role to play in our response to these challenges, and that a key component of that response is the global development of the GeoWeb. This talk will outline my vision of the GeoWeb, and the technology requirements that flow from that vision. Specific technical requirements such as transparency, scalability, unobtrusiveness, data type flexibility, and schema-based data transformation will be discussed. Solutions to these requirements, base on peer-to-peer and managed peer-to-peer frameworks building on ebRIM, GML, XML and KML standards will be presented.
