Today, the role of the government has transformed from a regulator to that of a facilitator. Given the
extraordinary pace of changes in the GIS industry, there has been a shift in the creation, storage,
dissemination
and use of information. The hybrid solutions with IT & GIS technologies for s-governance works
better, costs less, and is capable of servicing the citizens’ needs as never before. Hybrid solutions could be
engineered out of Enterprise IT, GIS, Embedded and many more such solutions. This brings together the
capabilities of individual solution to create incredible systems. Integrating different technologies will
facilitate building end-to-end solution for efficient and cost effective operations.
Hybrid technology solutions have a valuable potential to help government deliver good governance to
their constituents. Recent example being tsunami early warning system implemented using the best out
of embedded, IT and geospatial technologies for raising alerts against tsunami and coastal hazards. This
system will help the administrative body to take preventive measures against any alerts and is capable
of tabbing the false alerts. A GIS based portal helps in governing the entire system from single window
and
the same will benefit the citizens by disseminating information like alerts and taking preventive
measures.
Similar s-governance systems with converged ideas from different technology areas will help
sustain the life & environment and hence sustaining planet earth.
