Abstract
In recent years products and services have become increasingly more global in distribution, which has increased the world's reliance on containerized shipping and cargo transportation. This ever increasing reliance has resulted in increased economic risks associated with nefarious activities within the global supply chain. These economic risks, coupled with the increased dependence on global supply chain, will continue to drive the need to improve security for mobile cargo and assets. This need for improved security solutions requires the application of some of the emerging technologies that have, and will continue to, increase security professionals’ ability to monitor and secure mobile assets and cargo. This presentation takes a look at current and emerging technologies in the cargo security and asset management fields with the Globe with the goal of defining the ideal security technology and its current and future availability on a global scale. The ability to secure and monitor cargo during the transportation process is continually improving due to advancements in wireless communications and location-based technologies. By taking a look at the requirements to secure and monitor cargo on a global scale, we will attempt to quantify current capabilities and those of the future. This presentation will take a look at some of the technologies available today to security specialists, and how these technologies enable security professionals to gather the data they required to provide real time or near real-time asset monitoring. This presentation will take a look at GPS technology available today for use in cargo security.
