NRSA has set up a Master
Filming Facility (MFF) wherein the photographic films are generated
from Remote Sensing Satellite data. This facility is equipped with
B/W and Color digital film recorders to expose the digital data on
B/W and Color negative films from which the photo products (photo
prints) of required scale are generated for the visual
interpretation. The Film Recorders are interfaced with Pentium PC
systems, for ingesting image data from the media for generating
images and for controlling film recorder functions such as movement
of optical system, film advance, loading lookup tables, exposing
film etc.. A Look up table (LUT) is a transformation for matching
the image data to that of film density dynamic range. A suitable
image enhancement is done on the satellite data for better contrast
required for image interpretation. Non-linearities introduced by
Film, modulator and Photo processing are corrected by employing
suitable transformation through LUTs. The Remote Sensing data is
acquired, processed for Radiometric and Geometric corrections and
then transferred to Filming Systems through network. The Filming
Systems can also receive data in different media (i.e. 8 mm DAT,
CD-ROM, CCT etc.) and data formats (i.e. JPEG, BIL, BSQ, TIF etc.)
from the users. The Filming Facility is also equipped with the Image
Analysis software package on workstation which is used for
interactive image enhancement, annotation overlay, grid overlay, map
composition etc. for special Photo Products generation. This paper
deals with various aspects of Film products generation and
methodology used for generating different types of photo products of
data received from various Remote Sensing Satellites with varying
spatial and spectral resolutions.
