Abstract
As the world has become more mobile and technologically sophisticated, the need to locate people, places, and things and derive useful information from location has gained increasing importance. Therefore in the recording of the road accident events there is a demand for efficiently and conveniently record the information of the incidents. With respect to the data recording exercise, the usage of Location-based Services (LBS) with the integration of Mobile GIS, GPRS and GPS has been growing especially in recording and monitoring of inventories. The scope of the work is to record, download and upload data to the GIS data central. An integrated system was developed to enhance and possibly replaced the traditional method of data recording. The usage of the technology gave a great potential benefit in the recording of the road accident data. The map covering the 100 meter in radius from the location could be easily be downloaded and then the sketches of vehicles maneuvering would be drawn on the PDA screen and sent back to the server. The challenge here is to see how effective it would be in terms of accuracy and interoperability. The idea implemented here is to enhance the usage of POL27 form that has been created and established as a media and practice for recording road accident events by the Royal Police of Malaysia. The current practice has to undergo a long data processing time as the event locations need to be geo-coded manually.
