Abstract
This paper proposes a new intelligent terminal unit, HI-GPS1000, a mobile locator and micro-server with Linux OS loaded. As an integration of GPS sensor and communication terminal, HI-GPS1000 not only can navigate by single positioning, D-GPS, and linking to other sensors in real-time with needed interval, also can communicates with server by portable phone or wireless LAN in low or free charge.
Furthermore, customizing of HI-GPS1000 is possible by programming with loaded operating system of Linux according to any special custom-made item applied to different business and duties. It is also easy to control remotely for maintenance of programs and configurations in terminal unit.
In order to verify the validity, practical application of HI-GPS1000 and its positioning precision in stationary state and mobile state, some experiments were carried out in Tsukuba and Tokyo respectively, and, well precision was obtained. As the result of single positioning by HI-GPS1000, the standard deviation is about +/- 1 to 3 m in horizontal with enough number of GPS satellites and stable PDOP. It is suggested that HI-GPS1000 can be used for vehicle monitoring, fleet operating, logistical management, and the prediction for traffic congestion and so on. A detailed report about the experiment results and conclusions are presented in the paper.
