Appendix A: Explanatory note on Access Database
This database consist of three tables: Organizations, Case studies and Contacted Persons. The latest has been subdivided into 'persons from ITC' and 'persons outside ITC'.
Below, the meaning of some of the columns in these tables is clarified. This description will help to add more organizations or case studies to this Database. The digital version of this Database can be found on the cd-rom that goes together with this report (1 copy: Erik de Man, 1 copy: Emile Dopheide).
In the table 'Contacted Persons' the column 'Correspondence' refers to the email correspondence that took place with this persons. This information can only be found on the cd-rom. Most of the persons from ITC gave their comment on paper. These comments are not included in this report as appendix but are put in an separate document together with the other (email)correspondence (for information about this document: Erik de Man or Emile Dopheide).
Organization
Type: 5 different types of organizations: Funding Agencies, Specialized International Organization, Research and Training Institute, Associations, Consultancy Agencies. Web resources are also mentioned in the Database; Journals are only mentioned in the text (section 3)
Name of the organization, full name, internet: need no further explanation.
Focus area: if the organization focus its activities on a special region of country it is mentioned here, otherwise the focus is international.
Aims/tasks: aim or task of the organization.
Project/Department: name of a interesting project, relevant for this study or name of the department within the organization that is of relevance.
Internet_2: location on internet with information about this project or department
Email contact: refers to a person in the 'Contacted persons' Database or to a general email address for more information.
NB: 3 organizations I directly contacted by email stated not to have any information about the subject of this study: NORAD, UNCRD, VNG (Vereniging Nederlandse Gemeenten; Association of Dutch Municipalities)
Case studies
Name LGU: name of the Local Government Units (province, municipality or city).
Country: country where LGU is located.
Organization: implementing and/or coordinating organization.
Year: duration of this 'project'.
Information: place where information about this case can be found.
Contacted Persons
In the table 'Persons outside ITC' the column 'contacted via' refers to the person or other source of information that provided me the email address of the key person.
Other column need no further explanation.
