Introduction

Significance of the study
By conducting this study among different GPS vendors and users, many issues hindering GPS growth can be addressed. As this research is carried on independently, it will provide a clear picture of the emerging GPS market scenario in India.

This study will address different problems faced by the local vendors on a day-to-day basis. Some of the difficulties may be the inability to find enough GPS/GIS professionals, low awareness among the general public, irregular responses from the government regarding GPS policies, lack of GPS infrastructure in the country, restriction on free availability of maps due to security purposes, and so on.

Recommendations by various vendors on such issues will help in the discovery of common solutions. The communication gap between vendors and the GPS policy makers can be further reduced. The study will highlight how it is important for the vendors to emphasize the role of GPS from mere that of being an instrument to being a technology.

The study will stress how Indian manufactured hardware and software will reduce the overall prices of GPS products. It will also assist local companies in identifying prominent GPS services among GPS users. Automobile manufacturer can start providing GPS facilities in their vehicles. As awareness of GPS increases, the end user will have many options to get quality service at an affordable price. The rise in popularity of GPS among the general public will eventually lead to a decrease in the cost of GPS equipment.

In addition, the study will assist the government policy makers in deciding GPS policies related to GPS companies and end users. The government needs to encourage local private GPS vendors and joint ventures between private and public GPS vendors. Thus, through this study, vendors will be able to voice their problems more effectively.
