Introduction

Research Question
The research question for this paper is as follows:
What are the significant economic factors influencing the GPS vendors’ market penetration in urban India?

In India, GPS technology is in the beginning stage. Social awareness is the important issue, which needs to be addressed so that GPS service will become popular in India. For example, it is essential to increase awareness about the use of GPS and GIS in the public, private and the Non- Governmental Organization (NGO) sectors in India. Many seminars are being conducted by organizations like National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and Center for Spatial Database Management and Solutions (CSDMS) to facilitate interaction amongst experts and senior decision makers in the country regarding the importance of GPS and its applications. Such seminars help to enlighten the corporate world about GPS technology. It is time for India to prepare itself well for GPS.
