Literature Review
A literature review was undertaken to locate articles related to Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and their applications. In this literature review, other new technologies were portrayed, which are in use in developing countries like Ghana, China, Chile, etc. Major factors responsible for the successful growth of this new technology, like 3G mobile are been mentioned.
GPS is an upcoming technology in India. An attempt was made to relate if this finding regarding the success of 3G mobile markets in these developing countries holds true for the GPS market in India as well.
Poor (1993) discussed the role of GPS in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Air Traffic Model (GATOM) for air traffic purposes. In this case, the researcher emphasized the importance of the GPS-based GNSS Air traffic operation model in overall navigation and landing architecture.
The role of GPS during navigation is unlimited. As the information directly comes from the satellites, which can be further made accurate by using Differential Global Positioning Satellite (DGPS), the navigators get the exact co-ordinates of their locations. Many companies have started to install GPS on their vehicles as it allows continuous tracking of the location of vehicles. It will be easy for these users to find a perfect route to their destinations. Thus this study is beneficial to the navigation and aviation industries in India.
