Introduction

1.2. NEED FOR THE STUDY
Due to the tremendous population explosion in the recent years, the government is no more in a position to provide infrastructural facilities to all the areas.

In a broad sense, the study attempts to identify the problems of the present water supply system and then tries to establish alternative solution.

The present available sources of water are not sufficient to cater the needs of the water demand of the city. Moreover population explosion is putting tremendous pressure on water supply authorities. In this situation, the innovative solutions like wastewater recycling, rainwater harvesting, management techniques like GIS are gaining importance.

For Study purpose, Hyderabad is selected because of its acute water supply problem. Also, the recent advancements in the field of IT have boosted the growth of the city.

Planning is thus needed to establish a strong management system, minimizing present problems and accommodating future demand.
