Public And Semi Public

Public utilities included in this category are educational centres, institutions and hospitals. To cater to such a large population increased over the years, the facilities such as medical aid, education, water supply, electrical supply, sewage etc. have considerably increased. Presently area allotted to Public and semi Pubic utilities is 950 hectare, Out of this 447 hectares i.e. 47 percent of proposed area were utilized during 1976-1995. Educational Facilities
Raipur city is an important center of learning and it caters to the higher educational needs of Chhattishgarh region. The city is having two universities, viz Ravishankar University and Agricultural University, and several other specialized institutions of higher learning in field of technology and medicines. Present status of educational institutions is given in table

In 1971 there were only 11 colleges, 14 junior and 75 primary schools but in 2001 it has increased to 106 junior colleges and 262 primary schools. The trend of increase is shown in fig below.



Hospitals
The city serves as an important center of medical and health services for the region .In 1971 there were only 3, Hospitals, one Dispensary, one T.B clinic and 2 Family Planning centers. At present three medical colleges (Allopathic, Ayurvadic and Homeopathy) with specialized services are functioning in the city. At present newly established Apollo hospital and modern medical institutes in private sector, 2 general hospitals, 2 specialized hospitals (one for Leprosy in Kapa and one T.B. Sanitorium in Sarona village) and 7 Govt. dispensaries exists in the city. Nursing homes in different parts of city are providing specialized and extensive facility for the people. Raipur Development plan 2005 envisages following proposals:

  • Medical Complex
  • Two General Hospitals
  • Poly Clinics and 6 Intermediate Hospital in each planning unit
  • Dispensaries as per sector level requirement
