2.4 Soil
In the Nagpur District it was observed that a great variety of soils occurred
in this region and the major soil texture is Clayey encompassing almost 60%
of the area in the District where the clay content varies from 35 – 75%.
The remaining area of the district has soil texture ranging from clay loam
to sandy clay loam and is dominantly observed in Katol, Umrer and parts of
Ramtek Talukas. At places in Katol and Hingna Talukas,
the soils have sandy clay loam texture. In Ramtek, Umrer and Saoner areas
the change in geology from basalt to metamorphic and sedimentaries has given
rise to sandy loam to sandy clay loam soil texture. Some areas along the
foothills of tablelands on Katol taluka have coarse textured gravelly
soils.
