Posited for Mars exploration, a self-calibrating array of pseudolites eliminates the need for accurate a priori position information, precise placement, or navigation satellites.

    NASA has proposed a GPS-like system for Mars, and the French space agency plans to field a fleet of exploratory vehicles that will position themselves by observing the passing satellites. Canadian researchers calculate inter-satellite and satellite-ground ranges and range rates, simulating and assessing performance of both systems.
